We all fail in many ways. There were certain sahaba (radhiyAllahu ‘anhum) that didn’t behave properly at all (the companion who was an alcoholic as an example), and yet they yearned for Allah. Islam is what changes us. So it is a good thing that all of us crazy folk get called to the deen. Alhamdulillah for the ni’ama of Islam.

True, you speak the truth. I stand corrected. I think, allahou Alim, my original intention was that I get so sad when I see people who “go public” as Muslims yet on the surface maintain the same lifestyle they had a non Muslims.
But then again, look at me, right? Maybe I am not a good role model myself. Holla if you want the passwords hajja.

I know… Mike Tyson and Pete Doherty? Worst thing I’ve ever heard is Mike Tyson threatening to kill someone’s child on television and ending it with an asalam…SIGH.

If Britney converted to Islam and started to wear the hijab, her crazy weave would at least be covered up. Her hair stresses me out, she’s got too much money to look that crazy.

Ditto to what Cairogal said. I think that is why we see so many people converting in prison… They are looking for structure in their lives.

I wonder though where are leaders are in general. I keep hoping that someone from our generation will come forward as a real scholar, convert or not. How can we have so many smart people in our community and no one really dedicating their intelligence to the deen?????

I often think that Islam appeals to people w/ drug, alcohol, and criminal problems, because they view it as a set of rules to live by; a structure that was previously lacking. For someone who’s really out of control, rules and regulations are easier to adhere to. I believe Cat Stevens had a history of drug and alchohol abuse. He also was part of the sexual revolution in which pretty much anything went. For someone on the outside, Islam seems (and I stress that word “seems” to have a very clear list of what to do and what not to do.
