I am trying to get myself pumped up for the new job even though on some sick, possibly masochistic level, I will miss what will soon be the “old” job. So in order to get my game face on, I am going to remind myself of all the things I am not going to miss:
1. Fools talking on cell phones in trains. My train time is cut down by two thirds now. So I will have 66% less train fools. What’s more, I could, on a nice summer evening, WALK home. It would take a good 90 minutes but it would be right by the lake and quite pretty.
2. Speaking of trains, I will certainly NOT miss commuting during the Euro ‘08. Excuse me while I hide in the deep dark corners of a laboratory away from drunk foreign fools puking in the trains. YESSSSS!
3. I will not miss the Mad Pooper Squad. The fool architect who designed the building in which I currently work only put one women’s bathroom with one stall on a floor with around 80 women. Two of the girls are, uh, regular. So out of seven attempts to go to the bathroom just to take a pee, six of the times I either am waiting for someone taking a poo, or coming in there right after a major poo. Goodbye Mad Poopers, I hope you weren’t friends of mine (as I never figured out who they were).
4. I will not miss getting pushed off the tram. I will not miss standing on the tram. I will not miss getting froached on the tram. I will not miss the tram period.
5. I will not miss people who are never wrong about anything ever. Ever.
6. I will not miss the heinous cafeteria food and being forced to go out or go to the cafeteria because of the lame no food at desks rule. I will save to the tune of 100 francs a week just on lunch.
7. I will not miss having no control over my IT equipment. I will have a computer at new job that is not locked down and for which I will not have to beg, borrow or steal in order to get helpdesk to unlock me so that I may download the latest version of adobe, and yes that is business critical.
8. I will not miss waiting around at work another half hour because I would probably miss the earlier train. I will also not miss killing time in Cornavin.
9. I will definitely not miss having to hear French people’s lisping whisper noises in open space. New job is still in open space, but people talk to each other in normal tones of voices. Whispering is so much more distracting and disturbing than just normal talking.
10. Finally, I will not miss having to go to Lausanne train station for everything when I can take a bus from my new job that drops me off right at the top of my hill. Bye bye train stations!

MashAllah. I’m so excited for you.
but uhm, whats a tram?
I really wish I lived somewhere that had a subway system, not that any of the above things sound enjoyable, but driving and parking blows.
gas prices just hit a record high here so I would definitely enjoy and thoroughly utilize a metro system.
