Nice Husband is just one of those people macha Allah that picks up languages. He would never speak to me in German, then the other night we were out at an art show and homeboy starts going off in German. Like real fluent German. Where did that come from? He gets it from his momma.
Anyway, tonight, Nice Husband just treated me to his expansive knowledge of Chaoui. I have known him almost seven years and I never heard him speak Chaoui. His sister and mother yes. Macha Allah. His cousins can speak whatever you want (call me if you want multilingual tour guides in Algeria, our cousins are THE BEST and all your language are belong to them too).
But My Husband, Obama looking dude, sat there on the phone and spoke Chaoui. I can’t believe it. I’m bugging out. He spoke Chaoui. Like had a whole conversation.
So the next family reunion I am going to get my mother in law to sit with the cousins and hold up a picture that says “All your language are belong to us” because this is how they roll. For real.
Mots-clefs : chaoui, husband hiding his skeelz

Mashallah and I say this with no hate: I wish I was like that. I SO am not. Sigh.
Excuse me while I go back and do my rosetta stone exercises.

See? English is my 2nd language and now I can’t speak the first one well either.
It’s early, I shouldn’t comment when I’m delirious.

It would be so lovely to have that skill. I wish I didn’t struggle so much with learning a second language.

It’s so cool that he can pick up languages just like that! It takes most of us years just to grasp simple conversational words.
