I have been in this country too long

So I am watching the French municipal election results on tv, in preparation for being a good citizen in eleven months and counting, and they started talking about the various cities, and they mentioned this dude, the outgoing (and apparently reelected) mayor of Le Havre. I was like, “*ears perk up* Rufenacht? That’s a Swiss German name if I ever heard one!”

Why yes it is.

Other than that, it’s too early for me to talk about the elections. Moving on from people with Swiss last names and talking about the big picture, it’s easy for me, being quasi-disenfranchised (like a lot of foreign spouses Sarkozy screwed out of naturalisation in 2005, I mean hi) to sit here with a critical eye. Part of me wants to look at this electoral train wreck and say, “well the French elected people that got them into this mess.”

I blame Sarkozy for everything anyway. It’s easy.

When is the earliest that we can be rid of Sarkozy? He makes my skin crawl.

Salam alaikoum Safiya. Not soon enough, French presidents have five year terms and that fool is only on his first term. And you know those tools will reelect him. If they don’t, we always have his son who just got elected to Neuilly’s city council, just like dear old dad did back in the day but one year younger at the ripe age of 21!!! Personally the son scares the crap out of me because he is totally hot but talks like his dad so that creeps me out.
