Step back before I beat you down with one of my crutches

Ok so I have a big bandage and a splint on my ankle and crutches. You would think this gets me sympathy. You would be wrong.

Not only do I suffer the injustice of having to go to work for ingrate heathens who don’t appreciate me when I come in when I am supposed to be on bed rest, when I try to take the train I get:

-run over or pushed out of the aisle as I am walking to a seat by other people who want a seat

-forced to tuck in my leg as far as possible to some fool who thinks it is ok to sit by me

-stepped on should my foot stray into the aisle thanks to aforesaid moron who just has to squeeze in next to me

-almost knocked over trying to get off or on the train, that is when forty people don’t rush to get ahead of me

-and if I don’t have a seat, I won’t effing get one!  Yes, that’s right, I had to STAND the other day for about ten minutes until someone got a clue!

What is WRONG with this country?! And yes, that is the first time I have said that in almost ten years abroad, so take your santimonious “you need to learn to understand other cultures DP” and shove it up your behind because I understand other cultures just fine thank you very much.

I swear I am going to go to jail for assault by crutches if this goes on much longer. I don’t think it is too much to effing ask that I get a seat on the train, am not subject to some dimwit who asks me to move my leg, and that I not be stepped on or knocked.

Might I add here that I am so glad this is temporary and feel really bad for truly handicapped people if this is how I get treated.

Oh and I don’t think it is too much to ask for any one of my bosses to sit back and tell me thank you for coming in when I should be at home sitting on my behind. The company gets paid for my salary when I am out anyway, it is no skin off their backs.  Everyone SUCKS!

    Salaam Alaikum,

Insha Allah, I hope you get better soon.

A few years ago*, I was knocked off my bike by a car. Alhamdulilah, no major injuries, but I was incredibly bruised, especially on my legs. A few days after, I was hobbling down the road. I walked past some builders, not only did they stop and stare, but they also starting laughing at me. I would like to say I gave them some grief back, but instead I just kept my head down and carried on hobbling.

    Some people do indeed suck.

*By a few, I actually mean twelve. It only feels like yesterday, time goes so fast!.

Uffffff - I noticed these awful people here in KSA when I was 9 months pregnant. I’d come out of the prayer room and wait near the men’s prayer room waiting for dh to come out. There’d be a row of men all sat outside the prayer room, (don’t bother to pray eh?) and not one would think of budging their butt for the pregnant whale. :x

I love the UK for good manners.

man, common courtesy has almost ceased to exist in the western world.

inshAllah your leg will get better soon. Can you tell your work to eff off?

    Salaam ‘alaykum dearest DP -

    Get better soon, insha-Allah!

I’m so sorry you are dealing with such nincompoops. People who are healthy have a blatant disregard of those who are (temporarily or otherwise) not.

Every time I have been hobbling about with a cane or even in a wheelchair people literally *do not see me.* Whether at the mosque or mall, I get jostled and stepped upon.

It’s very frustrating and I’m truly sorry you had to experience that. Feel better soon, love!

(And feel free to whack them with your crutches- that’ll get their attention! :)

    Love & duas,
    B

Salam DP. You know, the train experience you described? That sounds EXACTLY like what we have here in Singapore. Makes me want to scream when I get pushed around in the train. And then there are those who hang on to the poles in the train as if those poles are attached to their hands. And don’t get me started on the body odour. Like, please people. Go get some deodorant for everyone’s sake? OK, enough ranting.

Sending you du’as for speedy recovery.

    Salam,

I think it’s because they’re not southerners. I am consistently horrified by the way these folks act. I’m looking at y’all in DC too!

Safiya, your story burns me up too.

    Grrrrr.

    Yeesh, people these days!
